The unofficial results in the vote for or against supporting the 2010 Olympic bid have 64 per cent of the Vancouver voters in favour of hosting the games, 36 per cent against the bid. No Olympic plebiscite yes vote has ever won till now.


The IOC will meet in Prague in July to vote on whether Vancouver, Salzburg, Austria, or Pyeongchang, South Korea, will be awarded the 2010 Games.

Those who favour hosting the Winter Games say the Olympics will create 244,000 new jobs in the province, generate up to $1 billion in tax revenues and produce a $4-billion increase in the gross domestic product.


The city itself would enjoy increased tourism and a legacy of new facilities like a convention centre, speed skating oval, curling rink and hockey arenas.


The city's 293,000 eligible voters were asked to answer yes or no to the question: ``Do you support or do you oppose the city of Vancouver's participation in hosting the 2010 Olympic Winter Games and Paralympic Winter Games.
