U.S. wants to end softwood dispute

A resolution to the long-standing softwood lumber dispute with the United States could happen in the new year, U.S. Ambassador to Canada Paul Cellucci said Sunday.



"Our hope is that it will provide the basis for getting people back to the table," Cellucci said. "And let's hope that we can resolve this long-term dispute."



Canada's $10-billion worth of sales to the U.S. took a steep hit after the Americans imposed an average duty of 27.2 per cent on Canadian lumber imports.
